20CrMnMo is a high-quality carburized alloy structural steel plate, widely used in mechanical manufacturing due to its excellent comprehensive mechanical properties. Below is a detailed introduction to its key characteristics, chemical composition, heat treatment, and application fields:

 

Key Performance Characteristics

Excellent Hardenability: Due to the synergistic effect of chromium, manganese, and molybdenum, the steel has good hardenability. Even for large-section workpieces, it can achieve uniform hardness after quenching, avoiding soft spots.

High Wear Resistance: After carburizing, the surface forms a hard layer (high carbon content) with strong wear resistance, suitable for parts subject to friction and wear.

Good Toughness and Fatigue Resistance: The tough core ensures the steel plate has high impact toughness and fatigue strength, enabling it to withstand alternating loads without brittle fracture.

Machinability: Before heat treatment (annealed state), the steel has moderate hardness (about 187-241 HB), making it easy to cut, drill, and process into complex shapes.

Heat Treatment Process

To maximize its performance, 20CrMnMo steel plate usually undergoes the following heat treatment:

 

Carburizing: Heating to 900-920°C, holding in a carbon-rich atmosphere to infiltrate carbon into the surface (carburized layer depth: generally 0.8-2.0 mm, depending on requirements).

Quenching: After carburizing, cooling rapidly (e.g., oil quenching) to obtain martensite, achieving high surface hardness.

Tempering: Heating to 150-200°C for low-temperature tempering to eliminate internal stress while maintaining high hardness and toughness.
