In the formation process of JSI Standard High Strength Steel, the synergistic effect of iron ore, scrap steel, and alloys is crucial. The following are the specific transformation paths and process details of these raw materials in production:

I. Pretreatment and Smelting of Iron Ore

Beneficiation and Concentration

Iron ore (such as hematite and magnetite) is crushed and ground, then impurities like gangue are removed through magnetic separation, flotation, and other processes to obtain iron concentrate powder with an iron content of >65%. For example, Angang Steel controls the particle size of taconite concentrate below 0.044mm through fine grinding and concentration, making it suitable for subsequent agglomeration.

Sintering and Pelletizing

Sintering: Iron concentrate powder is mixed with limestone and coke powder, then sintered at 1200-1300°C to form block sinter. During this process, bonding phases such as calcium ferrite are generated through solid-phase reactions, improving the strength and permeability of the ore. For instance, Shougang Steel increased the sinter drum index to 83% by extending the igniter and optimizing ore blending.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pelletizing: Iron concentrate powder is mixed with water and bentonite to form pellets, which are then roasted at 1100-1300°C. This process oxidizes magnetite to hematite and forms crystal bridges, resulting in pellets with uniform particle size and strength up to 2500N per pellet. Benxi Steel improved the pellet alkalinity to 1.5 by adding magnesium oxide, significantly enhancing metallurgical performance.
