Deformation Control

Q460E has moderate elongation (≥17%), but excessive deformation (e.g., sharp bending) may cause local stress concentration and cracking. The minimum bending radius should be strictly followed: for transverse bending (perpendicular to rolling direction), the radius is typically ≥3 times the plate thickness; for longitudinal bending, ≥2 times the thickness.

Avoid cold working at low temperatures (below 0℃). If unavoidable, preheat the material to 50-100℃ to improve plasticity and reduce brittle fracture risk.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tool and Equipment Selection

Use high-hardness tools (e.g., carbide or high-speed steel with HRC ≥60) to resist wear from the steel's high strength.

Ensure equipment rigidity: Cold working machines (e.g., bending presses) must have sufficient tonnage to avoid elastic deformation during processing, which may lead to dimensional inaccuracies.

Surface Protection

Remove surface oxides, oil, or rust before cold working to prevent indentation or cracking caused by impurities during deformation.
