As a high-yield strength structural steel, S275J2 undergoes temperature-controlled annealing (usually referring to annealing within a specific temperature range) mainly to improve the material's processability, eliminate internal stress, or adjust its structure. The common temperature-controlled annealing methods and processes are as follows:

1. Stress Relief Annealing

Temperature range: Typically between 550–650°C (below the Ac1 temperature, where Ac1 is the starting temperature for pearlite to austenite transformation; Ac1 for S275J2 is approximately 723°C).

Process:

Slowly heat the S275J2 steel plate to the above temperature to avoid generating new stress due to temperature differences.

The holding time depends on the plate thickness, generally 1 hour per 25mm thickness to ensure full stress release.

After holding, cool slowly with the furnace to below 200°C, then remove from the furnace for air cooling.

Purpose: Eliminate residual stress generated during welding, rolling, cold working, or casting of the steel plate, preventing deformation or cracking during subsequent processing or use. It has little effect on the material's strength and hardness (mechanical properties remain almost unchanged).
