Their processing needs to take into account the material's high strength, high-temperature performance, and weldability. The specific precautions are as follows:

I. Precautions for Cutting Processing

Tool Selection
SA387 is a high-strength alloy steel with high hardness and wear resistance. It is necessary to use high-speed steel (HSS-Co) or cemented carbide tools (such as WC-Co based alloys with additives like TiC and TaC to improve wear resistance).
For different processing procedures (turning, milling, drilling), tools should adopt reasonable angles: the rake angle is 5°-10° (to reduce cutting force), the clearance angle is 5°-8° (to reduce tool wear), and the edge inclination angle is appropriately negative (to enhance cutting edge strength).

Control of Cutting Parameters

Cutting speed: Adjust according to the tool material. For cemented carbide tools, the turning speed is generally 80-120 m/min; for high-speed steel tools, it should be appropriately reduced (40-60 m/min) to avoid tool softening due to high temperature.

Feed rate and cutting depth: The feed rate is recommended to be 0.1-0.3 mm/r, and the cutting depth should not be too large (no more than 3 mm for initial cutting) to prevent workpiece deformation or tool cracking caused by excessive cutting force.

Sufficient cooling and lubrication are required during cutting. Use extreme pressure emulsion or cutting oil (containing sulfur and chlorine additives) to reduce frictional heat and tool wear, and avoid overheating of the workpiece that affects its performance.
