 High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) Steel Sheets

Superior Strength • Enhanced Durability • Optimal Performance

Our High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) steel sheets are engineered to deliver exceptional mechanical properties while maintaining excellent formability and weldability. By incorporating precise microalloying elements, HSLA steel achieves higher strength-to-weight ratios compared to conventional carbon steels, making it an ideal choice for applications requiring lightweight yet robust material solutions.

Typical Chemical Composition (Weight %)

Element Composition Range (%) Role in HSLA Steel
Carbon (C) 0.05–0.25 Enhances strength and hardness.
Manganese (Mn) 0.5–2.0 Increases strength and hardenability.
Silicon (Si) 0.15–0.55 Improves deoxidation and strength.
Phosphorus (P) ≤0.04 Residual element (controlled for brittleness).
Sulfur (S) ≤0.05 Controlled to avoid hot shortness.
Microalloying Elements   Critical for HSLA properties:
Niobium (Nb) 0.02–0.06 Grain refinement, precipitation hardening.
Vanadium (V) 0.01–0.15 Strengthening via carbide/nitride formation.
Titanium (Ti) 0.01–0.10 Grain size control, sulfide modification.
Aluminum (Al) 0.01–0.10 Deoxidizer, refines grain structure.
Copper (Cu) 0.2–0.5 (optional) Enhances atmospheric corrosion resistance.

Common Grades & Standards

ASTM A572 (Grades 42–65)

ASTM A606 (Weathering HSLA)

EN 10149-2 (S355MC, S420MC, etc.)
