Welding Technology

Electrode Selection:

Non-Weathering Steel: Use E5016 (D4316 in JIS Z3211) to match SM490, ensuring proper weld strength and ductility.

Weathering Steel: Employ Cu/Ni-containing electrodes (e.g., WS-3E in JIS Z3224) to enhance corrosion resistance in welds.

Preheating Requirements:

Preheat to 80–120°C when plate thickness >25mm or ambient temperature <5°C to prevent cold cracking.

Forming and Surface Treatment

Cold Forming:

Allow a minimum bending radius of ≥2× plate thickness; monitor springback during shaping.

Hot Forming:

Heat to 850–950°C to avoid grain coarsening; avoid forming at low temperatures.

Anti-Corrosion Treatment:

Normal Steel: Apply epoxy primer + polyurethane topcoat (total film thickness ≥150μm).

Weathering Steel: Use weather-resistant varnish to leverage the protective rust layer (γ-FeOOH).

Quality Inspection

Mechanical Properties: Conduct tensile and impact tests for each batch to ensure compliance with JIS G3106.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):

Ultrasonic Testing (UT): Detect internal defects in the base metal.
