Products Description
When it comes to the maintenance of 24CrMoV steel pipes, non-destructive testing (NDT) plays a crucial role in ensuring their integrity and safe operation. NDT methods allow for the detection of flaws, defects, and deterioration without causing damage to the pipe itself, which is of paramount importance in maintaining the reliability and performance of these components.
One of the commonly used NDT techniques for 24CrMoV steel pipes is ultrasonic testing (UT). This method involves sending high-frequency sound waves through the pipe material and analyzing the reflections to identify any internal discontinuities or anomalies. UT is highly effective in detecting cracks, voids, inclusions, and wall thickness variations. Specialized ultrasonic transducers are placed on the surface of the pipe, and the echoes received are processed and interpreted to provide valuable information about the pipe's condition.
Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) is another valuable NDT method suitable for ferromagnetic materials like 24CrMoV steel. In this technique, a magnetic field is applied to the pipe, and ferromagnetic particles are spread over the surface. Any surface or near-surface defects disrupt the magnetic field, causing the particles to accumulate at the defect locations, making them visible for detection. MPI is particularly useful for identifying cracks, laps, and seams on the pipe's exterior.
Radiographic testing (RT), often referred to as X-ray or gamma-ray inspection, is a powerful NDT approach. It involves passing radiation through the pipe and capturing the resulting image on a film or digital detector. RT can reveal internal defects such as porosity, inclusions, and weld discontinuities. However, it requires careful radiation safety precautions and is typically used in cases where other methods may not provide sufficient resolution or access is limited.
Eddy current testing (ECT) is a non-contact NDT method that is suitable for detecting surface and near-surface defects in conductive materials like 24CrMoV steel. An alternating current is induced in the pipe, and changes in the eddy current flow due to defects are measured. ECT is often used for detecting cracks, corrosion, and material thickness changes on the pipe surface.

Thermographic testing (TT) is based on the principle of temperature differences on the pipe surface. It can be used to identify areas of heat loss or heat concentration, which may indicate insulation problems, hidden corrosion, or other anomalies. TT is particularly useful for large-scale inspections and for detecting issues related to heat transfer.
Leak testing is an essential aspect of pipe maintenance, especially for systems where fluid containment is critical. Methods such as pressure testing with inert gases or liquid media can help detect leaks and determine the integrity of the pipe joints and welds.
During the maintenance of 24CrMoV steel pipes, the selection of the appropriate NDT method depends on various factors, including the nature and location of the suspected defects, the accessibility of the pipe, the operating environment, and the requirements of the specific application. In many cases, a combination of multiple NDT techniques may be employed to provide a comprehensive assessment of the pipe's condition.
The steel pipe material is non-alloy low carbon steel. Pipe production technical method is ERW welded with longitudinal seam. Product standards are able to comply with ASTM A500, ASTM A53, ASTM A795, BS1387, BS EN10255, EN 10219, BS 1139, BS 39.
