Production Process

The steel is usually produced through a combination of smelting and rolling processes. In the smelting stage, high - quality raw materials such as iron ore and scrap steel are carefully selected and melted in a furnace. During rolling, strict control of parameters such as rolling temperature, speed, and reduction rate is necessary. For example, the rolling temperature is generally controlled between 1100 - 1200°C to ensure good plasticity of the steel and proper grain refinement.

Weldability and Machinability

These steel plates/sheets have good weldability. However, due to their high strength, special welding procedures and consumables need to be used to ensure the quality of the welded joint. Pre - heating before welding and post - welding heat treatment may also be required to reduce welding residual stress and avoid cracking. In terms of machinability, appropriate cutting tools and machining parameters should be selected to achieve efficient machining while maintaining the surface quality and mechanical properties of the steel.

Quality control during production includes non - destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle inspection, and radiographic inspection to detect internal and surface defects. Tensile, impact, and hardness tests are also carried out to verify the mechanical properties. The steel plates/sheets must meet the requirements of the relevant classification society to be used in shipbuilding to ensure the safety and reliability of the ship's structure.
