Chemical Composition

Silicon (Si): Present in a small amount, usually around 0.15 - 0.30%. Silicon acts as a deoxidizer and also contributes to the strength of the steel.

 

Mechanical Properties

 

Yield Strength: The minimum yield strength of ASTM A36 steel is approximately 250 MPa. This indicates the stress at which the material begins to deform plastically.

Tensile Strength: It has a tensile strength in the range of 400 - 550 MPa. Tensile strength represents the maximum stress that the material can withstand before breaking.

Elongation: The elongation at break is typically around 20 - 23%. This property shows the material's ability to stretch before failure and is an indication of its ductility.
