TYPE 4 is a specific type within this standard.

Chemical Composition: This steel contains alloying elements such as copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni). The addition of these elements gives it good corrosion resistance. Its carbon (C) content is usually relatively low, generally not exceeding 0.22% at most. The manganese (Mn) content is not more than 1.25% at most. The sulfur (S) content is not more than 0.04% at most. The copper content is at least 0.18%.

 

Performance Characteristics:

 

Atmospheric Corrosion Resistance: After long-term exposure to the atmospheric environment, the surface of ASTM A606 TYPE 4 steel will gradually form a stable and protective rust-red oxide film. This oxide film can prevent the internal steel from being further corroded, giving it good atmospheric corrosion resistance. This characteristic gives it a long service life in outdoor applications and reduces maintenance and coating costs.

High Strength: It has relatively high yield strength and tensile strength. The minimum yield strength can reach 50 ksi (thousand pounds per square inch), and the minimum tensile strength is 70 ksi. It can bear large loads and stresses and is suitable for structures and mechanical parts with high strength requirements.

Good Processing Performance: Although it is high-strength steel, through appropriate processing technologies such as welding, stamping, and cutting, it can still be processed and formed relatively easily.

Light Weight: Compared with ordinary carbon steel, its density is relatively low and its weight is lighter. This characteristic has advantages in some applications that have requirements for structural weight.
