Adjusting the Quenching and Tempering Process: For CCS A420 steel used in manufacturing key structural components of ship hulls, such as ship plates and keels, the quenching and tempering heat treatment can be adopted. The quenching temperature is usually between 900 °C and 950 °C. The holding time is determined according to the thickness of the workpiece. Generally, it is held for about 1 hour for every 25 mm of thickness, and then oil quenching is used. The tempering temperature is between 600 °C and 650 °C, with a holding time of 2 - 3 hours, and air cooling can be adopted. In this way, the steel can obtain good comprehensive mechanical properties, improve its strength and toughness, and meet the requirements for use in the harsh marine environment.

 

Construction Industry

 

Annealing Treatment: If CCS A420 steel is used for large steel structural components in construction, such as bridge girders and columns of high-rise buildings, annealing treatment can be carried out before processing. The annealing temperature is generally between 780 °C and 820 °C, with a holding time of 3 - 4 hours, and then it is slowly cooled in the furnace to room temperature. Surface Quenching: When CCS A420 steel is used to manufacture mechanical parts, such as gears and shafts, and it is necessary to improve the surface hardness and wear resistance, the surface quenching process can be adopted. For example, induction heating surface quenching can be used to quickly heat the surface of the part to between 900 °C and 950 °C, and then spray cooling is carried out to form a hardened layer. Subsequently, low-temperature tempering is carried out. The tempering temperature is between 180 °C and 220 °C, with a holding time of 1 - 2 hours, which can improve the surface hardness, wear resistance and fatigue resistance, while the core of the part still maintains good toughness.

Carburizing and Quenching: For some parts that require high surface hardness, high wear resistance and good fatigue resistance, such as gears in automobile transmissions, the carburizing and quenching process can be adopted. CCS A420 steel is held in a carburizing atmosphere at a temperature between 920 °C and 950 °C for a certain period of time to allow carbon atoms to penetrate into the surface of the part and form a certain depth of carburized layer. Then quenching and low-temperature tempering are carried out. The depth of the carburized layer is generally between 0.8 mm and 1.2 mm. The quenching temperature is between 880 °C and 920 °C, with oil quenching, and the tempering temperature is between 180 °C and 220 °C.
