CCS (China Classification Society) Grade A marine steel plate has the following characteristics and applications:

 

Mechanical Properties

 

Strength

Yield Strength: It has a minimum yield strength requirement, typically around 235 MPa. This ensures that the steel can withstand the static loads that a ship or marine structure will experience during normal operation.

Tensile Strength: The tensile strength is usually in the range of 400 - 520 MPa. This property provides the steel with the ability to resist being pulled apart under tensile forces.

Toughness

Good toughness is essential for marine applications. CCS Grade A steel plate has sufficient toughness to withstand impact loads, which is crucial for preventing brittle fracture in the marine environment. Chemical Composition

 

The chemical composition is carefully controlled:

Carbon (C): The carbon content is usually in a range that provides a balance between strength and other properties. A typical carbon content might be around 0.22%.

Silicon (Si) and Manganese (Mn): Silicon is added for deoxidation purposes, and manganese is an important alloying element that enhances the strength and toughness of the steel. The manganese content can be around 0.5 - 1.6%.

Phosphorus (P) and Sulfur (S): The levels of phosphorus and sulfur are kept as low as possible. Phosphorus content is usually limited to less than 0.04%, and sulfur content to less than 0.035% to avoid brittleness and ensure good weldability.
