Products Description
DNV steel plate DH36 differs from other grades of steel plates in several ways:
Mechanical Properties:Strength:
Yield Strength: The yield strength of DH36 is relatively high, typically at least 355 MPa. This is higher than many common grades of steel, allowing it to better withstand the loads and stresses in marine and offshore applications without undergoing excessive deformation. For example, compared to mild steel with a much lower yield strength, DH36 can handle the weight and dynamic forces of a large ship's hull or an offshore platform more effectively.
Tensile Strength: It has a tensile strength in the range of 490 - 620 MPa, indicating its ability to resist being pulled apart or fractured under tension. This high tensile strength is crucial for withstanding the various forces encountered in marine environments, such as wave impacts, wind loads, and the stresses during the operation of ships or offshore structures.
Toughness: DH36 is known for its good toughness, especially at low temperatures. It can absorb a significant amount of energy before fracturing, which is essential for applications in cold marine environments or where there is a risk of impact. This is in contrast to some other grades of steel that may become brittle at low temperatures and are not suitable for such demanding environments.
Chemical Composition:
Alloying Elements: DH36 contains specific alloying elements in carefully controlled amounts to achieve its desired properties. For example, it has a manganese content in the range of 0.90 - 1.60%, which contributes to its strength and toughness. The presence of other elements such as carbon, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur is also regulated within specific limits to ensure the steel's quality and performance.

Application Areas:
Marine and Offshore Industry Focus: DH36 is specifically designed for use in the marine and offshore industries. It is commonly used in the construction of ship hulls, offshore oil drilling platforms, platform pipe joints, and other components that require high strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance in a marine environment.
Heavy-Duty Applications: Due to its high strength and performance characteristics, DH36 is suitable for applications where heavy loads and demanding conditions are present. For instance, it is used in large ocean-going ships with a displacement of over 10,000 tons, where the structural integrity of the hull is crucial for the safety and performance of the vessel.
Certification and Standards: DH36 is produced under the approval and certification of DNV (Det Norske Veritas), a respected classification society in the marine and offshore industry. This means that the steel meets specific quality and performance standards set by DNV, ensuring its reliability and suitability for use in critical marine and offshore applications. Other grades of steel may be certified by different classification societies or may not meet the same stringent standards as DH36.

Silicon (Si): Generally around 0.10% - 0.50%. Silicon helps in the deoxidation process during steelmaking.
Manganese (Mn): Typically in the range of 0.90% - 1.60%. Manganese is an important alloying element that contributes to the strength and toughness of the steel.
Phosphorus (P): The phosphorus content is usually limited to a maximum of around 0.035%. High phosphorus levels can cause brittleness.
Sulfur (S): Usually limited to a maximum of about 0.035%. Sulfur can have a negative impact on the ductility and weldability of the steel.
Aluminum (Al): May be present in small amounts (around 0.015% - 0.050%) for deoxidation and grain refinement purposes.
It should be noted that the specific chemical composition may vary slightly depending on the manufacturing process and specific requirements of the steel producer.
