Chemical composition:
Carbon (C): The carbon content is relatively low, usually not exceeding 0.21%. A lower carbon content helps to improve the weldability and ductility of the steel plate.
Manganese (Mn): The manganese content is relatively high, which is generally in accordance with the requirement of Mn ≥ 2.5×C. Manganese can enhance the strength and hardness of the steel.
Silicon (Si): The silicon content is not more than 0.50%. Silicon can improve the oxidation resistance and high-temperature performance of the steel to a certain extent.
Phosphorus (P) and Sulfur (S): The contents of phosphorus and sulfur are both very low, with P not exceeding 0.035% and S not exceeding 0.035%. Low contents of these two elements are beneficial to improve the quality and performance of the steel, reducing the possibility of defects such as cracks and inclusions.
Mechanical properties:
Tensile strength: The tensile strength of GL-A shipbuilding steel plate is in the range of 400 - 520 MPa. This means that the steel plate can bear a certain amount of tensile stress without breaking, ensuring the strength and stability of the structure in use.
Yield strength: The yield strength is 235 MPa or more. Yield strength is an important indicator of the material's ability to resist deformation. A higher yield strength indicates that the steel plate is less likely to deform under load.
Elongation: The elongation in 2 inches (50 mm) is not less than 22%. High elongation shows that the steel plate has good ductility and can be deformed to a certain extent without cracking, which is convenient for processing and manufacturing in the shipbuilding process.
Impact resistance: The impact test is an important test for shipbuilding steel plates. The impact test temperature of GL-A shipbuilding steel plate is usually 20°C, and it needs to meet certain impact energy requirements to ensure that the steel plate can withstand impact loads in the marine environment.
