The shipbuilding steel plate Grade EH32 has the following characteristics:
In terms of chemical composition:

Low carbon content: The carbon (C) content is usually ≤0.18%. Low carbon content helps improve the welding performance of the steel plate and reduces the possibility of cracks and other defects during welding, making the steel plate easier to be welded during ship construction.

Appropriate amount of manganese element: The content of manganese (Mn) is between 0.90 - 1.60%. Manganese element can improve the strength and toughness of the steel plate and enhance the ability of the steel plate to resist external impact and deformation. It is very important for ships to withstand various stresses and impacts in the marine environment.Control of other elements: The content of silicon (Si) is between 0.10 - 0.50%, the content of phosphorus (P) is ≤0.04%, and the content of sulfur (S) is ≤0.04%. The strict control of these elements helps ensure the purity and quality stability of the steel plate and reduce the adverse effects of harmful elements on the performance of the steel plate. The content of aluminum (Al) is ≥0.015%. Aluminum element in steel can play a role in refining grains, improving toughness and oxidation resistance.

 

 

 

In terms of mechanical properties:

High strength: The yield strength is ≥315MPa, and the tensile strength is between 440 - 570MPa. This relatively high strength can meet the requirements of ship structures for the load-bearing capacity of materials, enabling ships to withstand various loads during navigation, including the weight of the hull itself, the weight of cargo, the pressure of seawater, and the action of external forces such as wind and waves.

Good toughness: It has good toughness, especially maintaining good impact toughness at low temperatures. For example, in some standards, it is required that the impact energy of the steel plate reaches a certain value in a specific low-temperature environment (such as -40℃). Good toughness can make the steel plate less likely to break when subjected to impact or sudden loading, improving the safety and reliability of ships.

Good ductility: The elongation rate is ≥21% (minimum), indicating that the steel plate has good plasticity and ductility and can withstand a certain degree of deformation during processing and use without easily breaking.
