In the production of marine grade steel plates, chromium is usually not added through separate synthesis but is introduced into the steel plates in the following ways:

 

 

I. Smelting Process

 

Blast furnace smelting: During blast furnace smelting, raw materials such as iron ore, coke, and limestone are heated to high temperatures. The iron element in the iron ore is reduced to form molten iron. At the same time, some alloy elements, such as chromium, may also be reduced and dissolved in the molten iron during this process.

Converter or electric furnace smelting: The molten iron from the blast furnace is sent to a converter or electric furnace for further refining. During this process, chromium-containing alloy raw materials can be added as needed to adjust the chromium content in the steel plate. By controlling parameters such as smelting temperature, time, and oxygen flow, the chromium element can be uniformly dissolved in the molten steel.

 

II. Continuous Casting and Rolling Process

 

Continuous casting: The refined molten steel is continuously cast into steel billets. During the continuous casting process, the chromium element in the molten steel will be distributed in the steel billet as the molten steel solidifies. By controlling continuous casting process parameters such as cooling rate and withdrawal speed, the microstructure of the steel billet can be made more uniform, thereby improving the quality of the steel plate.

Rolling: The steel billet is sent to a rolling mill for rolling to produce steel plates of different thicknesses and specifications. During the rolling process, by controlling parameters such as rolling temperature, reduction ratio, and rolling speed, the microstructure of the steel plate can be made more dense. At the same time, the distribution of chromium content in the steel plate can be further adjusted to make it more uniform.
