Rolling Stage (Producing Steel Plates/Sheets)

 

Equipment:

 

Heating Furnace: Used to heat the continuous casting slab to an appropriate rolling temperature. According to different rolling processes, the types of heating furnaces are also different, such as walking beam heating furnaces, pusher-type heating furnaces, etc. These heating furnaces can accurately control the heating temperature and time of the blank, so that the blank has good plasticity during the rolling process.

Rolling Mills:

Roughing Mill: Mainly for preliminary rolling of the heated blank, reducing the thickness of the blank and improving the shape and dimensional accuracy of the blank. Roughing mills generally have a large rolling force and can quickly roll thick blanks into relatively thin intermediate slabs.

Finishing Mill: Used to further roll the intermediate slab after rough rolling into the final steel plate or sheet. Finishing mills have higher precision requirements and can accurately control the rolling thickness and plate shape. Generally, multi-stand continuous rolling is adopted to make the thickness of the steel plate uniform and the surface quality good.

Cooling Equipment: Including laminar cooling devices, air-cooled roller tables, etc. The laminar cooling device sprays cooling water on the surface of the steel plate to accurately control the cooling speed of the steel plate, thereby improving the performance of the steel plate, such as increasing strength and toughness. The air-cooled roller table is used to allow the steel plate to cool naturally when rapid cooling is not required.

Cutting Equipment: Such as disc shears, flying shears, etc. Disc shears are used to trim the edges of the rolled steel plate to make its width meet the requirements; flying shears are used to cut the continuously rolled steel plate according to a certain length to obtain finished steel plates or sheets.

Process:

 

Blank Heating: Put the continuous casting slab into the heating furnace and heat it to an appropriate temperature. Generally, the rolling temperature of mild steel is about 1000 - 1200°C. This temperature range can make the blank have good plasticity and be convenient for rolling.

Rolling Process: First, the heated blank is rolled in multiple passes by the roughing mill to gradually reduce the thickness of the blank. Then, the finishing mill rolls the intermediate slab into the final steel plate or sheet. During the rolling process, parameters such as rolling speed and reduction amount should be controlled to ensure the thickness accuracy and plate shape quality of the steel plate.

Cooling and Cutting: After rolling is completed, according to the performance requirements of the steel plate, an appropriate cooling method (such as laminar cooling or natural cooling) is used to cool the steel plate. Finally, the steel plate is cut into specified sizes by cutting equipment to obtain finished Mild Steel Plate/Sheet.
