The following are the characteristics and uses of some common shipbuilding plates:

 

General strength shipbuilding plates (such as grades A, B, D, and E):

 

Characteristics:

Possess certain strength and toughness, capable of meeting the basic requirements of conventional hull structures.

Have good weldability, facilitating the construction and processing of ship hulls.

Different grades have slight differences in chemical composition and performance. For example, the impact energy test temperature varies. Grade B shows better impact toughness than grade A.

Uses: Widely used in the hull structures of various small and medium-sized ships, such as the hull, deck, and bulkhead of cargo ships and fishing vessels.

 

High-strength shipbuilding plates (such as AH32, AH36, DH32, DH36, EH32, EH36, FH32, FH36, etc.):

 

Characteristics:

Have higher strength. The yield strength and tensile strength are greater than those of general strength shipbuilding plates, capable of withstanding greater loads and stresses.

Possess good toughness and low-temperature impact toughness, adapting to relatively harsh marine environments and working conditions.

Generally have higher requirements for welding processes to ensure welding quality and joint performance.

Some high-strength shipbuilding plates also have good resistance to lamellar tearing.

Uses: Commonly used in large ocean-going ships and marine engineering structures where higher material performance is required. For example, AH36 shipbuilding plates are often used in the hull structures of ocean-going cargo ships, oil tankers, and chemical carriers. EH36 shipbuilding plates can be used for structural components of offshore platforms that require higher strength and toughness.

Z-direction performance shipbuilding plates (such as plates with Z-direction performance suffixes):

 

Characteristics: In addition to having the basic performance of shipbuilding plates of corresponding strength grades, they have good resistance to lamellar tearing in the thickness direction, effectively preventing the steel plate from delaminating due to stress in the thickness direction.
