After Installation: Long-Term Maintenance

1. Natural Rust Layer Development

Initial Stage (1–3 years):

In the first 6–12 months, the surface will form a reddish-brown "young" rust layer. Avoid mechanical scraping or harsh cleaning during this period, as it may disrupt the natural oxide layer formation.

In areas with low rainfall (dry climates), periodically rinse the surface with clean water to remove dust and soluble salts, which can accelerate corrosion if accumulated.

Mature Stage (3+ years):

A stable, dark brown/black protective oxide layer (approx. 0.1–0.3 mm thick) will form, adhering tightly to the base metal. This layer significantly reduces corrosion rates.

Inspect annually for abnormal corrosion spots (e.g., deep pitting, flaky rust). For localized damage, sandblast the affected area to remove loose rust, then allow natural re-oxidation or apply a matching repair coating.

2. Cleaning and Inspection

Routine Cleaning:

Use soft brushes or low-pressure water (≤50 bar) to remove debris (e.g., leaves, bird droppings), which may retain moisture and cause localized corrosion.

Avoid using acidic/alkaline cleaners, wire brushes, or high-pressure water (≥100 bar), as these can damage the protective rust layer.

Structural Inspection:

Check welds, bolt connections, and stress-concentrated areas for signs of cracking or corrosion.

In severely polluted environments (e.g., near highways with de-icing salts), increase inspection frequency to monitor for early signs of accelerated corrosion.
