Microstructure and Performance Stability at High Temperatures

1. Precipitation Strengthening Mechanism

When heated to 600–900°C, 253Ma precipitates fine Nb(C,N) carbonitrides distributed along grain boundaries and within grains, providing dispersion strengthening-key to its high-temperature strength (distinct from the solid solution strengthening of common austenitic stainless steels).

2. Grain Growth and Thermal Stability

Recommended maximum service temperature: 1150°C. Above this, grain coarsening accelerates, reducing room-temperature toughness (though high-temperature plasticity remains good).

Long-term service at 700–850°C requires avoiding σ-phase precipitation (a brittle phase), which may decrease impact toughness but has minimal effect on high-temperature strength.
