Main Characteristics of Alloy Stainless Steel 316L Plate

1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance

Chemical Corrosion Resistance: Shows good tolerance to organic acids (e.g., sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid) and salt solutions. It is particularly suitable for chloride ion (Cl⁻)-containing environments (such as seawater and brine solutions), with significantly better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 stainless steel.

Intergranular Corrosion Resistance: Due to its extremely low carbon content (≤0.03%), carbides (Cr₂₃C₆) are less likely to precipitate in the heat-affected zone after welding, avoiding intergranular corrosion risks. This makes it suitable for structural components that do not require post-welding heat treatment.

Oxidation Resistance: Maintains stable oxidation resistance in high-temperature environments (e.g., below 300°C) and can be exposed to humid or mildly corrosive atmospheres for long periods.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Mechanical Properties and Processing Characteristics

Strength and Ductility: At room temperature, its strength is similar to that of 304 stainless steel (tensile strength ≥480MPa, yield strength ≥175MPa), with an elongation rate ≥40%. It combines good plasticity and impact resistance, suitable for forming processes like bending and stamping.

Work Hardening Tendency: Cold working causes slow hardening, allowing forming via cold rolling, stretching, etc. However, deformation should be controlled to avoid cracking (annealing may be needed when necessary).

Weldability: Can be welded by standard methods (e.g., TIG welding, arc welding). The low carbon content reduces the sensitivity to hot cracking, enabling reliable welds without additional filler materials.
