Influence of Nickel (Ni) on Mechanical Properties of Hastelloy C-4 Alloy Steel Plate

1. Enhanced High-Temperature Strength and Stability

Melting Point and Thermal Resistance: Nickel's high melting point (1,455°C) forms the basis for the alloy's exceptional thermal stability. It maintains the structural integrity of Hastelloy C-4 plates in high-temperature environments (e.g., 500–700°C), making them suitable for applications in chemical reactors, furnaces, or exhaust systems where heat and corrosion coexist.

Synergy with Cobalt (Co): The combination of nickel and cobalt strengthens the alloy's resistance to creep and fatigue at elevated temperatures. This synergy ensures that Hastelloy C-4 plates retain mechanical properties (e.g., tensile strength and yield strength) without significant degradation, even under prolonged high-temperature exposure.

2. Optimized Room-Temperature Ductility and Workability

Plastic Deformation Capacity: The nickel-based face-centered cubic (FCC) solid solution endows Hastelloy C-4 plates with excellent ductility (room-temperature elongation ≥40%). This allows the material to undergo cold working processes such as stamping, rolling, or bending without cracking, making it adaptable for complex fabrication (e.g., forming pressure vessels or structural components).

Post-Processing Recovery: After cold working, Hastelloy C-4 plates can regain their optimal mechanical properties (e.g., ductility and toughness) through annealing.
