Products Description
Alloy Structural Steel Plate
Alloy structural steel plates are high-performance steel products enhanced with alloying elements (e.g., manganese, silicon, chromium, nickel, molybdenum) to improve mechanical properties like strength, toughness, wear resistance, and heat resistance. These plates are designed for demanding structural applications where standard carbon steel may not meet performance requirements, such as heavy machinery, bridges, aerospace components, and high-stress industrial equipment. Below is a comprehensive overview:
Common Grades & International Standards
Alloy structural steel plates are classified by regional standards, with grades optimized for specific applications. Here are the most widely used:
| Standard | Key Grades | Alloying Elements | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chinese (GB) | 40Cr, 42CrMo, 20CrMnTi, 35CrMo | Cr, Mo, Mn, Ti | Gear shafts, bolts, high-stress components |
| American (ASTM) | A572 Grade 50/60/70, AISI 4140, A387 | Cr, Mo, Ni (A387) | Bridges, pressure vessels, structural frames |
| European (EN) | S355JR, S460N, 16Mo3 | Mn, Mo | Heavy machinery, offshore structures |
| Japanese (JIS) | SM490YA, SN490B, SCM435 | Cr, Mo | Automobile parts, industrial equipment |
Manufacturing Process
Melting & Casting: Raw materials (iron ore, alloys) are melted in electric arc furnaces (EAF) or basic oxygen furnaces (BOF) to achieve precise chemical composition.
Hot Rolling: Slabs are heated to 1100–1250°C and rolled into plates/sheets, forming a dense, uniform microstructure.
Heat Treatment:
Quenching & Tempering (Q&T): Plates are heated to 800–900°C, quenched in water/oil to harden, then tempered at 500–650°C to reduce brittleness and balance strength/toughness.
Normalizing: For lower-alloy grades, to refine grain structure and ensure uniformity.
Surface Treatment: Optional processes like shot blasting or painting to improve corrosion resistance (e.g., for outdoor infrastructure).

Applications
Alloy structural steel plates are critical in high-stress, high-performance scenarios:
Heavy Machinery: Crane booms, excavator arms, and hydraulic press frames (require high tensile strength).
Aerospace & Defense: Aircraft landing gear, missile components (toughness at extreme temperatures).
Energy Sector: Oil rigs, power plant boilers, and pressure vessels (A387 grade for high-temperature resistance).
Bridges & Infrastructure: Long-span bridges, stadiums, and skyscraper frameworks (S355JR, A572 Grade 50).
Automotive: Axles, gears, and chassis components (4140, 20CrMnTi for wear resistance).
