1. Chemical Composition
The key chemical composition (typical values, wt%) of 904L is as follows:
Chromium (Cr): 19.0-23.0% (forms a passive oxide film to resist corrosion)
Nickel (Ni): 23.0-28.0% (stabilizes the austenitic structure, improves toughness and corrosion resistance)
Molybdenum (Mo): 4.0-5.0% (enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride environments)
Copper (Cu): 1.0-2.0% (improves resistance to sulfuric acid and other reducing acids)
Carbon (C): ≤0.02% (low carbon content reduces sensitization and intergranular corrosion risk)
