Annealing Process Analysis of Nickel-Based Hastelloy B Steel Plate

I. Annealing Objectives

The core objectives of annealing Hastelloy B series nickel-based alloys (e.g., Hastelloy B-2, B-3) include:

 

Eliminating Work Hardening: Improving plasticity and toughness after cold processing (e.g., rolling, stamping) to facilitate subsequent forming.

Homogenizing Microstructure: Removing composition segregation and microstructural inhomogeneity generated during casting or processing.

Restoring Corrosion Resistance: Preventing the precipitation of harmful phases (e.g., σ phase, intermetallic compounds) to ensure corrosion resistance in reducing media (e.g., hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid).

Relieving Internal Stress: Reducing residual stress to prevent stress corrosion cracking during service.

II. Key Annealing Parameters (Taking Hastelloy B-2 as an Example)

Process Step	Specific Requirements
Temperature Control	- Annealing temperature: 1065–1100°C (controlled within ±10°C) - Precipitates are difficult to dissolve below 1065°C; grain coarsening may occur above 1100°C.
Holding Time	- Calculated by plate thickness: 30 minutes per 25mm thickness for uniform heat penetration - Typical holding time: 15–60 minutes (adjusted by workpiece size).
Cooling Method	- Rapid cooling (water quenching or air cooling, prefer water quenching) - Quickly pass through 650–850°C to avoid Mo precipitation, which forms brittle phases and impairs corrosion resistance.
