In corrosive environments (such as humid conditions, industrial areas, marine settings, or places with chemical exposure), additional anti-corrosion measures are essential to extend its service life. Below are the common anti-corrosion methods for S355J2 steel plates:
1. Surface Preparation
Proper surface treatment is the foundation for effective anti-corrosion, as it removes contaminants and creates a suitable surface for subsequent protective layers.
Cleaning:
Use solvents, emulsions, or alkaline solutions to remove oil, grease, dust, and organic pollutants from the steel surface. This is usually a preliminary step and cannot eliminate rust, scale, or oxides.



Mechanical Rust Removal:
Manual/mechanical tool cleaning: Use wire brushes, sandpaper, or power tools (e.g., electric grinders) to remove loose rust, scale, and old coatings. Manual tools can achieve a cleanliness level of St2, while power tools can reach St3 (a cleaner surface with a slight metallic sheen).
Acid Pickling:
Immerse the steel plate in acidic solutions (e.g., hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid) to dissolve rust, scale, and oxides. This method achieves high cleanliness but results in a shallow surface profile (anchor pattern) and may cause environmental pollution if not properly treated.
Abrasive Blasting (Shot/Grit Blasting):
High-speed projection of abrasive materials (steel shot, grit, or mineral particles) onto the surface to remove rust, scale, and contaminants completely. It also creates a rough surface profile (anchor pattern) to enhance the adhesion of subsequent coatings. This method is widely used due to its efficiency and effectiveness, reaching cleanliness levels like Sa2.5 (near-white metal) or Sa3 (white metal).
