SM520B steel plate is a low-alloy high-strength structural steel plate under the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS), mainly used in welded structures, such as construction, bridges, containers, automobiles, ships, railways and other fields. This steel plate is famous for its excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, low-temperature performance, plasticity and weldability, and is widely used in many industries and fields.

I. Material Preparation and Pretreatment

Material Inspection

Confirm the thickness tolerance of the steel plate (in accordance with JIS G3106 standard, usually ±0.15~0.3mm) to avoid stress concentration caused by uneven thickness.

Check the surface quality to ensure there are no cracks, scratches, or scale (which can be pretreated by shot blasting or pickling).

Verify the material certificate to confirm that the yield strength (≥365MPa), tensile strength (520-640MPa), and elongation (≥19%) meet the requirements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Softening Treatment (if needed)

For stamping of complex shapes (such as deep drawing), annealing can be performed to reduce hardness (heating to 650-700°C, holding for a certain time, then slow cooling), but it should be noted that this may reduce strength.

SM520B in the thermo-mechanical control process (TMCP) state does not require additional heat treatment, as its grain structure has been optimized through the rolling process.
