1.5532 Steel

 

1.5532 is a standard for low alloy carbon steel. Its chemical composition mainly consists of carbon (C) content between 0.09-0.15%, manganese (Mn) content between 0.30-0.50%, silicon (Si) content between 0.20-0.35%, and phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) content not exceeding 0.030%. Additionally, it contains small amounts of chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni).

 

The tensile strength of this steel ranges between 550-850 MPa, with a yield strength of 275 MPa and elongation at fracture of 14%. These physical properties make 1.5532 steel suitable for various applications.

 

1.5532 steel is widely used in mechanical manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, and shipbuilding industries. It is commonly used for manufacturing parts such as gears, springs, bearings, bolts, as well as chassis structures and bridge components in vehicles.

 

This type of steel is usually in a hot-rolled state and can be further hardened and tempered to enhance its hardness and strength.

 

The advantages of 1.5532 steel include good formability and weldability, high strength and hardness, as well as good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Additionally, it has a relatively low cost and is easy to process and use.

 

However, 1.5532 steel also has some drawbacks. Its higher carbon content makes it prone to carbide precipitation, resulting in brittleness and susceptibility to cracking. Additionally, prolonged exposure to high temperatures may cause decarburization and annealing, leading to a decrease in its mechanical properties.

 

1.5532 steel is available in various forms such as plates, bars, pipes, and wires. Different countries have different designations for this steel, for example, it is known as 45Mn2 in China, A487 Class C in the United States, and GS-42CrMo4V in Germany.
