1.7225 Steel

 

1.7225 steel standard is EN 10083-3. It is a high-strength alloy structural steel with excellent mechanical properties and high wear resistance.

 

The specific chemical composition is as follows:

Carbon (C): 0.38-0.45%

Silicon (Si): maximum 0.40%

Manganese (Mn): 0.60-0.90%

Phosphorus (P): maximum 0.035%

Sulfur (S): 0.020-0.040%

Chromium (Cr): 0.90-1.20%

Molybdenum (Mo): 0.15-0.30%

Boron (B): 0.0005-0.0030%

 

The tensile strength of this steel is 850-1000MPa, the yield strength is 650-900MPa, and the elongation at fracture is ≥14%.

 

1.7225 steel is mainly used to manufacture high-strength components such as crankshafts, bearings, connecting rods, and gears.

 

This steel can be annealed or quenched.

 

Advantages:

1. High strength and hardness;

2. Good wear resistance and fatigue strength.

 

Disadvantages:

1. Difficult to machine and heat treat;

2. In some cases, other materials may be used to compensate for its low toughness.

 

The most common forms of this steel include round steel, square steel, flat steel, and steel plates.
