42CrMoS4 Alloy Steel

 

The standard for 42CrMoS4 steel is EN 10083-3. It is an alloy structural steel with excellent mechanical properties and high wear resistance.

 

The specific chemical composition is as follows:

Carbon (C): 0.38-0.45%

Silicon (Si): maximum 0.40%

Manganese (Mn): 0.60-0.90%

Phosphorus (P): maximum 0.035%

Sulfur (S): 0.020-0.040%

Chromium (Cr): 0.90-1.20%

Molybdenum (Mo): 0.15-0.30%

Boron (B): 0.0005-0.0030%

 

The tensile strength of this steel is 900-1100MPa, the yield strength is 750-900MPa, and the elongation at fracture is ≥10%.

 

42CrMoS4 steel is mainly used to manufacture high-load components such as crankshafts, bearings, connecting rods, and gears.

 

This steel can be in the annealed or quenched state.

 

Advantages:

1. High strength and hardness;

Disadvantages:

1. Difficult to machine and heat treat;

2. In some cases, other materials may be used to compensate for its low toughness.
