1.7227 Steel

 

1.7227 steel is an alloy tool steel standardized by EN ISO 4957. This steel has good cutting performance and wear resistance.

 

The specific chemical composition is as follows:

Carbon (C): 0.25-0.35%

Silicon (Si): 0.10-0.40%

Manganese (Mn): 0.30-0.60%

Phosphorus (P): maximum 0.03%

Sulfur (S): maximum 0.03%

Chromium (Cr): 0.90-1.20%

Molybdenum (Mo): 0.15-0.30%

 

The tensile strength is 900-1200MPa, yield strength is 680-900MPa, and elongation is 15-25%.

 

1.7227 steel is mainly used to manufacture cutting tools, molds, and mechanical parts, such as blades, thread rollers, and mold bases.

 

This steel can be in the annealed, normalized, or quenched state.

 

Advantages:

1. Good cutting performance and wear resistance, suitable for high-speed cutting and heavy-load work;

2. Excellent hardening depth and toughness.

 

Disadvantages:

1. Lower toughness may increase the risk of fracture under extreme loads;

2. Special heat treatment process is required to ensure its performance.
