Chemical Composition:

 

Carbon (C): Approximately 0.26% to 0.34%.

Silicon (Si): 0.17% to 0.37%.

Manganese (Mn): 0.40% to 0.70%.

Chromium (Cr): 0.80% to 1.10%.

Molybdenum (Mo): 0.15% to 0.25%.

 

Mechanical Properties:

 

Tensile Strength: Generally ranges from 930 MPa to 1080 MPa.

Yield Strength: Around 785 MPa to 930 MPa.

Elongation: Approximately 12% to 14%.

Impact Toughness: Good impact resistance, typically measured in terms of Charpy impact energy.

Heat Treatment:

 

Quenching: Heating to a temperature of around 850°C to 880°C and then rapidly cooling in oil or water.

Tempering: After quenching, tempering is done at a temperature of 500°C to 650°C to improve toughness and reduce hardness.

 

Corrosion Resistance:
Moderate corrosion resistance due to the presence of chromium. However, it is not as corrosion-resistant as stainless steels. In some environments, protective coatings may be required to enhance its corrosion resistance.

 

Weldability:
30CrMo alloy steel is weldable using various welding methods such as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). However, proper welding procedures and preheating may be necessary to ensure good weld quality.

 

Applications:

 

In the oil and gas industry, it is used for pipelines, valves, and drilling equipment.
