Heat treatment Related

Annealing of 4135 Alloy structural steel

Slowly heated to 850 ℃ and allow enough times, let the steel to be thoroughly heated, Then cool slowly in the furnace to 480 ℃ follow by air cool. The 4135 alloy steel will get MAX 250 HB (Brinell hardness).

Normalizing of 4135 Alloy structural steel

Heated slowly to 850-880°C,Keep about 2 hours. Then cool in air.

Hardening of 4135 Alloy structural steel

Heated slowly to 870-890°C, Then after adequate soaking at this temperature quench in oil. Temper as soon as tools reach room temperature.

Tempering of 4135 Alloy structural steel

Heated to 400-565°C, Keep at the temperature for 2 hours per 25mm of section, then allow to cool in air.

Mechanical Properties in Tempering Condition(18-22 HRC)

One of the advantages of AISI 4135 is its strength and quenchability. This material can achieve a relatively uniform hardness after quenching and has good wear resistance and fatigue resistance. Additionally, its corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance are also excellent. However, there are also disadvantages to AISI 4135 that mention. For example, its toughness is relatively low and may become brittle in low-temperature environments, and it may undergo oxidation at high temperatures.

As for its usage, AISI 4135 steel is widely used in the manufacture of high-strength and wear-resistant parts and components such as high-strength bolts, shafts, gears, and sprockets. Additionally, due to its good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, AISI 4135 is also commonly used to manufacture parts and tools that require higher strength, such as components for high-temperature work and tools that require high precision and longevity.

Internationally, various countries have corresponding grades for AISI 4135. For example, in the European EN standard, the corresponding grade for AISI 4135 is 1.7107 steel; in China, according to the Chinese national standard GB/T 3077-2015, the corresponding grade for AISI 4135 is 35CrMo steel. These corresponding relationships facilitate communication and cooperation among different countries' industries and enterprises.

Overall, AISI 4135 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel with high strength, quenchability, and wear resistance, mainly used for manufacturing parts and components that require high strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. Its chemical composition, mechanical properties, and usage correspond to specific standards in different countries, providing convenience for international cooperation and exchange. However, due to its disadvantages such as relatively low toughness, care should be taken regarding its applicability during usage.
