1.1203 carbon steel is a type of carbon steel material in the European standards, corresponding to the grade C45 in the Germany standard DIN EN 10083-2. Its chemical composition includes elements such as carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), and sulfur (S). The specific chemical composition is approximately 0.42-0.50% carbon content, silicon content not exceeding 0.40%, manganese content of 0.50-0.80%, and phosphorus and sulfur content not exceeding 0.045%, with iron (Fe) as the remaining component.

 

The tensile strength of 1.1203 carbon steel is 630-780 MPa, the yield strength is around 370 MPa, and the fracture elongation is 14-18%. This material is mainly used to manufacture mechanical parts, forging parts, and forgings, such as bearings, gears, chains, and bolts. In addition, in some applications, this material can also be used to manufacture cutting tools, cutting tools, and springs.

 

1.1203 carbon steel can be supplied in both heat-treated and non-heat-treated states. In the heat-treated state, different mechanical properties and hardness can be obtained through methods such as normalizing, annealing, and quenching.

 

The advantages of 1.1203 carbon steel include high strength, good toughness and plasticity, easy to process and heat-treat, and good hardness and wear resistance can be obtained through quenching. The disadvantages of 1.1203 carbon steel are that it is prone to cracks and splits, and is sensitive to etching and corrosion. In addition, the welding performance of 1.1203 carbon steel is poor, and suitable preheating and welding conditions need to be adopted to avoid crack formation.
