S460J2 steel is a high-strength low-alloy structural steel, which conforms to the European standard EN 10025-2. The tensile strength of S460J2+N steel is 540-720 MPa, with a yield strength of 460 MPa. The fracture elongation is not less than 17%.
It is mainly used in applications such as building structures, mechanical manufacturing, shipbuilding, and pressure vessels. It is available in hot-rolled, controlled rolled, and normalized conditions.
The advantages of S460J2+N steel include high strength, good weldability, excellent toughness, and corrosion resistance. However, it also has some disadvantages, with the most noticeable being the higher cost.
Common forms of S460J2+N steel include plates, pipes, rods, and profiles. Similar grades in various countries include Q460E steel in China, A572 Gr.65 steel in the United States, and StE460 steel in Germany.
