S460K2 steel is a high-strength low-alloy structural steel with the standard EN 10025-2. Its chemical composition ranges from carbon (C) 0.20%, silicon (Si) ≤0.60%, manganese (Mn) 1.70%, phosphorus (P) ≤0.025%, sulfur (S) ≤0.015%, niobium (Nb) ≤0.060%, potassium (K) ≤0.030%, chromium (Cr) ≤0.30%, nickel (Ni) ≤0.50%, molybdenum (Mo) ≤0.20%, copper (Cu) ≤0.55%, titanium (Ti) ≤0.04%, aluminum (Al) ≥0.02%, and nitrogen (N) ≤0.015%.
The tensile strength of S460K2 steel is 470-630 MPa, and the yield strength is 460 MPa. The elongation at fracture is not less than 17%.
S460K2 steel is mainly used in construction, machinery manufacturing, and shipbuilding industries. It can be found in various states such as hot-rolled, controlled rolled, and normalized. Its advantages include high strength, good toughness and weldability, and excellent corrosion resistance.
However, the drawbacks of S460K2 steel are its high cost and susceptibility to thermal influence.
