1. Composition Overview

Q800D is a high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel grade with excellent mechanical properties, weldability, and impact toughness. Its typical chemical composition includes:

Carbon (C): 0.05–0.12% – Enhances strength while maintaining weldability.

Manganese (Mn): 1.00–1.60% – Improves hardenability and tensile strength.

Silicon (Si): 0.10–0.50% – Enhances deoxidation and strength.

Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.020% – Controlled to minimize brittleness.

Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.010% – Restricted to improve ductility and toughness.

Microalloying Elements (Nb, V, Ti): 0.02–0.10% – Refines grain structure and enhances strength through precipitation hardening.

Boron (B): Trace amounts (optional) – Improves hardenability.

2. Key Properties

Yield Strength: ≥ 800 MPa

Tensile Strength: 850–1000 MPa

Elongation: ≥ 14%

Impact Toughness (at -20°C): ≥ 27 J

3. Application Guidelines

Q800D is widely used in demanding structural applications, including:

Processing Recommendations:

Cutting: Plasma, laser, or waterjet cutting is preferred for precision.

Welding: Use low-hydrogen electrodes (e.g., E11018) with proper preheating (100–150°C for thick sections).

Forming: Cold forming is possible but may require annealing for complex shapes.

Heat Treatment: Quenching & tempering (Q&T) optimizes strength-toughness balance.
