Composition

Galvanized steel sheet is a carbon steel substrate coated with a protective zinc layer through a hot-dip or electro-galvanizing process. The typical composition includes:

Base Material: Low-carbon steel (C: ≤0.15%, Mn: 0.30–0.60%, P/S: ≤0.04%)

Zinc Coating: Pure zinc (Zn ≥99%) or zinc alloy (e.g., Zn-Fe, Zn-Al) with a standard coating weight of 30–275 g/m² (depending on application requirements).

Optional Additives: Aluminum (0.1–0.3%) for improved corrosion resistance or silicon for enhanced coating adhesion.                                                        

                        

Key Performance Characteristics

Superior Corrosion Resistance

The zinc coating acts as a sacrificial barrier, protecting the steel from oxidation and rust in harsh environments (e.g., humidity, salt spray).

Service life can exceed 20–50 years, depending on coating thickness and exposure conditions.

Excellent Formability & Weldability

Retains the mechanical properties of the base steel, allowing for bending, stamping, and deep drawing without coating flaking.

Compatible with spot welding and arc welding techniques (adjustments may be needed to minimize zinc vaporization).

High Strength & Durability

Available in various grades (e.g., DX51D, DX52D, S350GD) with tensile strengths ranging from 270 MPa to 600 MPa.

Suitable for structural and load-bearing applications.

Aesthetic Versatility

Smooth, spangled, or matte surface finishes for decorative or industrial uses.

Paintable and printable for additional customization.
