Equipment

 

Ironmaking Equipment
Blast Furnace: This is a key equipment for ironmaking. Raw materials such as iron ore, coke, and flux are loaded into the top of the blast furnace in a certain proportion and undergo a reduction reaction at high temperatures to produce pig iron. For example, the volume of a large modern blast furnace may reach more than 4000 cubic meters, and it can produce tens of thousands of tons of pig iron per day.

 

Steelmaking Equipment
Converter or Electric Furnace
Converter: When producing ABS - AH36 shipbuilding steel plates, the converter is one of the commonly used steelmaking equipment. The converter blows in oxygen to oxidize and remove impurities in the molten iron while adjusting the chemical composition of the molten steel. The capacity of the converter usually ranges from tens of tons to hundreds of tons. For example, a 150 - ton converter is common in steelmaking production.
Electric Furnace: In some cases, an electric furnace is also used for steelmaking. The electric furnace uses electrical energy as a heat source and is suitable for smelting some special steel grades. It can precisely control the temperature and composition of the molten steel, which has an advantage in producing high - quality shipbuilding steel plates.

 

Refining Equipment
Ladle Refining Furnace (LF Furnace): It is used for further refining the molten steel produced by the converter or electric furnace. The LF furnace can fine - tune the chemical composition of the molten steel, homogenize the temperature of the molten steel, and remove inclusions in the molten steel. Through LF furnace refining, the quality of the molten steel can be made more stable to meet the requirements of the chemical composition and purity of ABS - AH36 shipbuilding steel plates.
Vacuum Refining Equipment (such as RH Vacuum Treatment Device): For the production of some shipbuilding steel plates with strict requirements on gas content, vacuum refining equipment is necessary. The RH vacuum treatment device can effectively reduce the content of gases such as hydrogen and oxygen in the molten steel and improve the quality of the steel. For example, after RH treatment, the hydrogen content in the molten steel can be reduced to a very low level (such as less than 2ppm), thereby reducing the risk of hydrogen - induced cracks in the steel during use.

 

Continuous Casting Equipment
Continuous Casting Machine: Continuously casts the refined molten steel into steel billets. There are various types of continuous casting machines, such as slab continuous casting machines. When producing shipbuilding steel plates, the slab continuous casting machine can produce slabs with thickness and width that meet the requirements. For example, it can produce slabs with a thickness of 200 - 300mm and a width of 1000 - 2000mm, providing raw materials for the subsequent rolling process.

 

Rolling Equipment
Reheating Furnace: Used to heat the continuous casting billet to an appropriate rolling temperature. Types of heating furnaces include walking - beam heating furnaces. The heating furnace needs to precisely control the temperature to ensure that the steel billet has good plasticity and workability during the rolling process. For example, the ABS - AH36 steel billet is heated to a temperature range of about 1100 - 1250 °C.
Rolling Mill
Roughing Mill: Conducts preliminary rolling on the heated steel billet to roll the thick slab into a thinner intermediate billet. The roughing mill usually has a large rolling force and can quickly reduce the thickness of the steel billet. For example, the roughing mill can roll a 300mm - thick slab into an intermediate billet with a thickness of 50 - 100mm.
Finishing Mill: Conducts further precise rolling on the intermediate billet to achieve the required finished thickness and dimensional accuracy of the ABS - AH36 shipbuilding steel plate. The finishing mill can ensure the thickness tolerance, flatness, and other quality indicators of the steel plate. For example, the intermediate billet is rolled into a shipbuilding steel plate product with a thickness of 10 - 30mm, and the thickness tolerance can be controlled within ±0.3mm.

 

 

 

Continuous Casting Process
Molten Steel Preparation: The temperature and composition of the refined molten steel are finally adjusted to ensure the stable quality of the molten steel. For example, the temperature of the molten steel is controlled to be about 30 - 50 °C above the liquidus temperature to ensure the fluidity of the molten steel during the continuous casting process.
Continuous Casting Process
Mold: After the molten steel enters the mold, it begins to solidify and form a shell under the cooling effect of the mold wall. The vibration frequency and amplitude of the mold need to be adjusted according to the continuous casting speed and steel grade to ensure the uniform growth of the shell. For example, the vibration frequency of the mold is generally between several tens of times per minute and hundreds of times per minute.
Secondary Cooling: The cast slab coming out of the mold is further solidified by spraying water or atomized water in the secondary cooling zone. The intensity of the secondary cooling needs to be adjusted according to the thickness of the cast slab, the continuous casting speed, and the steel grade to avoid defects such as cracks in the cast slab.

Rolling Process
Rough Rolling: Multiple passes of rolling are carried out on the roughing mill to gradually reduce the thickness of the steel billet. The reduction amount of each pass needs to be adjusted according to the material, thickness, and equipment capacity of the steel billet. For example, during the rough rolling process, the reduction amount of each pass may be between 10 - 30mm.
Finishing Rolling: During the finishing rolling process, the rolling temperature, rolling speed, and reduction amount need to be precisely controlled to ensure the dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties, and surface quality of the steel plate. For example, the final rolling temperature of the finishing rolling is generally controlled at about 800 - 900 °C, the rolling speed is adjusted according to the thickness and equipment capacity of the steel plate at several meters to tens of meters per second, and the reduction amount is adjusted according to the requirements of the finished thickness at several millimeters to tens of millimeters per pass.
Cooling Process: The rolled steel plate needs to be cooled to control its microstructure and properties. Air cooling, water cooling, or other cooling methods can be used. For example, for ABS - AH36 shipbuilding steel plates, when using the thermomechanical control process (TMCP), under a certain rolling temperature and deformation amount, the strength and toughness of the steel plate are improved by controlling the cooling speed (such as 10 - 20 °C per second) to refine the grains.
