DH Grade Ship Building Plate

 

The DH grade and EH grade shipbuilding steel plates mainly have the following differences:

 

I. Chemical composition

 

Carbon content:

The carbon content of DH grade shipbuilding steel plates is relatively low and is usually controlled within a certain range to ensure good welding performance and toughness.

The carbon content of EH grade shipbuilding steel plates may be slightly higher than that of DH grade, but it is also strictly controlled within a range to ensure the balance of strength and toughness.

Alloying elements:

Both may contain alloying elements such as manganese and silicon, but EH grade may contain a higher proportion of microalloying elements to improve strength and toughness. For example, EH grade may contain more elements such as niobium and vanadium to refine grains and improve the comprehensive performance of the steel plate.

DH grade focuses more on ensuring good welding performance and low-temperature toughness when adding alloying elements.

II. Mechanical properties

 

Strength:

EH grade shipbuilding steel plates have higher strength. Their yield strength and tensile strength are usually higher than those of DH grade. For example, the yield strength of EH grade may be above 355 MPa, while the yield strength of DH grade is generally around 315 MPa.

This high strength makes EH grade steel plates more suitable for ship structural parts that bear large loads.

Toughness:

In terms of low-temperature toughness, both DH grade and EH grade have certain requirements, but DH grade can usually maintain good toughness at lower temperatures. For example, DH grade may still have good impact toughness at -40°C, while EH grade may meet the impact toughness requirement at -20°C.

EH grade also tries to maintain good toughness at higher strength, but its toughness at extremely low temperatures may be slightly inferior to that of DH grade.

 

 

III. Uses

 

Ship types:

DH grade shipbuilding steel plates are suitable for general ship structures, such as the hull structures of cargo ships and oil tankers. For ship parts with high requirements for low-temperature toughness, such as the outer plates and decks of the hull, DH grade steel plates can provide good performance guarantees.

EH grade shipbuilding steel plates are more suitable for large ships with high strength requirements, such as container ships and large bulk carriers. These ships need higher strength to bear heavy loads and harsh marine environments.

Structural parts:

In ship structures, DH grade steel plates are often used in parts that have high requirements for welding performance and low-temperature toughness, such as the corner joints and welded joints of the hull. These parts are easily affected by stress concentration and low-temperature environments during ship operation and need to have good toughness and welding performance.

EH grade steel plates are mainly used in the main structural parts of ships, such as the longitudinal bones and beams of the hull. These parts need to bear large loads and have high strength requirements.
