Products Description
The following is the general trend of the hardness change of AH36 steel at different tempering temperatures, but the specific values may vary depending on the specific composition of the steel, the initial state and other factors.
Tempering below 200°C: The hardness change is not obvious. In this temperature range, it's mainly the carbon segregation in martensite, which has a relatively small impact on hardness.
Tempering between 200°C and 300°C: For AH36 steel, after tempering in this temperature range, the hardness may decrease slightly, but the reduction range is not large. Because at this time, the transformation of the retained austenite and the further decomposition of martensite occur, and the tempered martensite structure is formed, but the structure transformation is incomplete.
Tempering between 300°C and 400°C: The hardness begins to decrease significantly. As the tempering temperature rises to 300°C - 400°C, the carbides begin to transform, aggregate and grow, the decomposition of martensite intensifies, and the tetragonality decreases. These factors combined lead to a decrease in the hardness of the steel.

Tempering between 400°C and 500°C: The hardness continues to decrease. In this temperature range, the ferrite phase has an obvious recovery, the cementite gradually aggregates and spheroidizes, and the structure transforms into tempered troostite, further reducing the hardness of the steel.
Tempering between 500°C and 650°C: The hardness of the steel drops to a relatively stable level. At this time, the ferrite phase recrystallizes to form a tempered sorbite structure. The steel has better plasticity and toughness, and the hardness change is not significant compared with the previous tempering stages.
