(A) High-Strength Ship Plate Steel
In "F550 high strength plate steel for shipbuilding produced by TMCP", the continuous cooling transformation (CCT) behavior of low-carbon microalloyed SiMnCrNiMo thick plate steel was studied using a Gleeble 3800 thermomechanical simulator, and a series of thermomechanical control process (TMCP) operations were carried out using a two-high reversible pilot rolling mill with an accelerated cooling system. Through TMCP, the F550 shipbuilding plate with a yield strength (YS) greater than 590 MPa and an average Charpy V-notch (CVN) energy higher than 230 J at -60 °C was successfully developed. Final rolling was carried out at 800 - 820 °C with a reduction ratio of 67%, followed by interrupted accelerated cooling at 350 - 500 °C, which is crucial for obtaining a fine bainite microstructure and superior performance in the F550 plate.
In "High Strength Steel Plates for Large Container Ships", large-thickness steel plates with a good combination of high strength, toughness, and weldability, such as EH36, EH40, and EH47 grade high-strength ship plate steel, were developed by optimizing the chemical composition and TMCP process parameters. Ti and Nb microalloying elements were added to these three steel grades to enhance the strength and toughness of the substrate. The strength of the EH47 grade substrate was further enhanced by increasing the amount of substitutional solid solutions such as manganese, copper, nickel, or chromium. To manufacture the EH36 steel plate suitable for a high heat input exceeding 550 kJ/cm, the thermal stability of TiN particles was improved to obtain better toughness in the weld heat affected zone. The thermally stable TiN particles effectively inhibited the grain growth in the weld heat affected zone, thus resulting in better toughness.

(B) High-Strength Bridge Steel Plates
In "Analysis for Scar Defect on Q345q Bridge Steel Plate Surface", the scar defects on the hot-rolled plate surface of the bridge steel Q345q were analyzed. The results showed that the scar defects were non-metallic massive inclusions or non-metallic slag, and notches were formed under the scar defects. The chemical composition of the scars was oxides, silicates, or aluminates containing Si, Ti, Al, Ca, Mg, which were formed during the steelmaking process. Therefore, the surface quality of the steel plate can be improved by removing non-metallic massive inclusions during the steelmaking process or cleaning the slab before rolling.
