Grain Coarsening: An excessively high manganese content may lead to grain coarsening during the solidification of steel. When the manganese content is too high, it will change the crystallization process of the steel, and the mechanism that originally inhibits grain growth may be disrupted. For example, in some complex alloy steel systems, excessive manganese will interfere with the normal nucleation and growth processes, causing the grain size to become larger. The coarse - grained structure will reduce the strength of the steel because the binding force between coarse grains is relatively weak, and cracks and deformations are more likely to occur when external forces are applied, resulting in a decrease in strength.

 

Abnormal Second - Phase Precipitation: An excessively high manganese content may also cause abnormal precipitation of the second phase (such as carbides, intermetallic compounds, etc.). Under normal circumstances, an appropriate amount of the second phase can improve the strength of the steel through methods such as dispersion strengthening. However, when the manganese content is too high, these second phases may precipitate in a coarse and continuous form instead of being uniformly and dispersedly distributed. This abnormally precipitated second phase cannot effectively impede the movement of dislocations. Instead, it will become a stress - concentration point and is prone to causing cracks when under force, reducing the strength of the steel.
