At the initial stage of iron - making, it's essential to choose high - quality iron ore with low impurity content. For example, high - grade iron ore usually contains fewer harmful impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus. For the production of shipbuilding steel plates, ores with a high iron content (for example, an iron content of over 60%) and impurity content that meets strict standards should be selected as far as possible. This can reduce the introduction of impurities from the source.
At the same time, the raw ore should be carefully screened and pretreated. Through physical methods such as magnetic separation and gravity separation, the gangue and other impurity components in the ore can be removed, further reducing the possibility of impurities entering the molten iron.

 

Control the Quality of Alloy Additives:
When adding alloy elements (such as manganese, niobium, vanadium, etc.) to improve the performance of the steel plate, the purity of these alloy additives must be ensured. For example, the purity of manganese alloy should reach a relatively high level (for example, the manganese content is above 75%), and the content of impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus in it should be strictly controlled. Optimization of the Melting Process

 

Adopt Advanced Melting Equipment and Technology:
Utilize efficient converter or electric furnace melting technologies. For example, in a basic oxygen converter, the phosphorus in the molten iron can be effectively removed through precise oxygen - blowing control. This melting method enables phosphorus to react with calcium oxide (CaO) in the slag to form calcium phosphate (Ca₃(PO₄)₂) and enter the slag, thus reducing the phosphorus content in the molten iron.
Adopt special melting processes such as vacuum melting or electroslag remelting. Vacuum melting can effectively remove gaseous impurities (such as hydrogen and oxygen) in the molten iron in a low - pressure environment. These gaseous impurities may form pores and other defects in the steel plate, affecting its toughness. Electroslag remelting can further purify the molten steel.
