Controlling Rolling Temperature: During the hot - rolling process, the rolling temperature has a crucial impact on the grain size. For example, reducing the finishing - rolling temperature can effectively refine the grains. For GL - E690 steel, when the finishing - rolling temperature is decreased from a relatively high temperature (such as 1000°C) to a lower temperature (such as 800°C), the degree of dynamic recrystallization is reduced, and the growth of grains is inhibited, thus leading to grain refinement. The lower rolling temperature increases the dislocation density during the deformation process, providing more sites for subsequent recrystallization nucleation. After new nuclei are formed, the atomic diffusion ability is weakened due to the lower temperature during the grain - growth process, and the grain - growth rate becomes slower, ultimately resulting in fine grains.

Quenching and Tempering Combined Process: Quenching is a process in which the steel is heated above the critical temperature, held for a certain period of time, and then rapidly cooled. Tempering is a process of heating the steel after quenching. During the quenching process, GL - E690 steel will form a martensite structure. The martensite structure itself has high hardness and strength, but poor toughness. Through tempering, the martensite can be decomposed, and the quenching stress can be eliminated. At the same time, the grain size can be adjusted by controlling the tempering temperature and time during the tempering process. For example, at an appropriate tempering temperature (such as 600 - 650°C) and time (such as 2 - 3 hours), the carbides in the martensite will aggregate and grow, and the grains will also grow appropriately. However, the performance balance can be achieved by optimizing the tempering parameters so that the steel has good comprehensive properties.
