One of the widely used types is GL Ship Steel Plate AH36. This grade of steel plate is known for its high strength. The yield strength typically exceeds 355 MPa, providing excellent resistance against deformation under load. Its tensile strength ranges from 490 to 630 MPa, enabling it to withstand significant mechanical stresses. The impact toughness at low temperatures is also notable, ensuring the plate's performance in harsh marine environments. For instance, at -40°C, the impact energy absorption can reach values such as 27 J in the longitudinal direction and 18 J in the transverse direction.
Another common type is GL Ship Steel Plate DH36. It offers even higher strength compared to AH36. The yield strength can be as high as 390 MPa, and the tensile strength can range from 510 to 690 MPa. This makes it suitable for applications where greater structural strength is required, such as in the construction of critical components of the ship's hull. The impact resistance at low temperatures remains a key feature, with values similar to or slightly better than AH36 depending on the specific thickness and manufacturing process.
GL Ship Steel Plate EH36 is yet another important variant. It is characterized by exceptional toughness and durability. The yield strength usually exceeds 415 MPa, and the tensile strength can reach 570 to 720 MPa. This grade is often chosen for ships operating in extremely demanding conditions, such as in icy waters or those subjected to heavy loading cycles. The enhanced toughness is reflected in its ability to absorb high levels of impact energy at low temperatures, with values typically exceeding those of AH36 and DH36.
In addition to these high-strength grades, GL Ship Steel Plate A is also commonly used for less critical parts of the ship. It has a relatively lower yield strength, around 235 MPa, and a tensile strength in the range of 400 to 520 MPa. However, it offers good formability and weldability, making it suitable for components where complex shapes need to be fabricated.
