Products Description

When welding LR/EH40 grade steel by submerged arc welding, the control of welding speed and wire feeding speed needs to comprehensively consider multiple factors.

I. Control of welding speed
Base metal thickness: Thicker LR/EH40 grade steel plates usually require a lower welding speed to ensure sufficient heat input and full fusion of the weld. For example, for thick plates, the welding speed may be around 20 to 30 centimeters per minute; while for thinner plates, the welding speed can be appropriately increased and may reach 30 to 50 centimeters per minute.
Welding current and voltage: The welding speed should match the welding current and voltage. Higher welding current and voltage usually allow for a higher welding speed, but if the speed is too fast, it may lead to a decline in weld quality, such as the occurrence of lack of fusion, porosity and other defects. On the contrary, too low a welding speed will increase heat input and may lead to coarse grains and welding deformation.
Welding position: In the flat welding position, a relatively high welding speed can usually be adopted, while in the vertical welding, horizontal welding and overhead welding positions, the welding speed needs to be reduced to ensure good weld formation and quality. For example, in flat welding, the welding speed may be 35 to 45 centimeters per minute; while in vertical welding, the welding speed may be reduced to 20 to 30 centimeters per minute.
Weld requirements: If there are higher requirements for weld quality, such as requiring a smooth weld surface, no defects, and stable mechanical properties, the welding speed may need to be reduced to ensure sufficient time for controlling the molten pool and the escape of gas. On the contrary, if production efficiency is the main consideration, the welding speed can be appropriately increased on the premise of ensuring weld quality.

II. Control of wire feeding speed
Welding current: The wire feeding speed is closely related to the welding current. Generally speaking, higher welding current requires a higher wire feeding speed to ensure sufficient melting of the welding wire and filling of the weld. For example, if the welding current is 500 amperes, the wire feeding speed may be around 5 to 7 meters per minute; and when the welding current is 800 amperes, the wire feeding speed may need to be increased to 8 to 10 meters per minute.
Welding wire diameter: Different diameters of welding wires require different wire feeding speeds. Thicker welding wires usually require a lower wire feeding speed, while thinner welding wires require a higher wire feeding speed. For example, for a welding wire with a diameter of 4 millimeters, the wire feeding speed may be 4 to 6 meters per minute; while for a welding wire with a diameter of 2 millimeters, the wire feeding speed may be 6 to 8 meters per minute.
Welding position: Similar to welding speed, different welding positions will also affect the selection of wire feeding speed. In the flat welding position, the wire feeding speed can be relatively high; while in the vertical welding, horizontal welding and overhead welding positions, due to the influence of gravity, the wire feeding speed needs to be appropriately reduced to ensure that the welding wire can be smoothly fed into the molten pool.
Weld shape and size: Adjust the wire feeding speed according to the shape and size requirements of the weld. If a wider weld is needed, the wire feeding speed may need to be increased to provide more filler metal; while for a narrower weld, the wire feeding speed can be reduced.
