Welding Sequence: For complex ship structures, a reasonable welding sequence is very important. Symmetrical welding or backstep welding methods should be used as much as possible to reduce welding deformation. For example, when welding the hull plates, symmetrical welding from the middle to both sides can make the welding stress distribution more uniform and reduce the possibility of deformation.

 

Welding Parameter Control: During the welding process, welding parameters such as current, voltage and welding speed should be strictly controlled. Fluctuations in welding parameters may lead to unstable weld quality and defects such as incomplete penetration, undercut, excessive or insufficient weld height. At the same time, pay attention to observing the state of the welding pool and adjust the welding parameters in a timely manner according to the size, shape and fluidity of the welding pool.

 

Inter - pass Cleaning: For multi - pass and multi - layer welding, after each layer of welding is completed, inter - pass cleaning should be carried out. Remove the slag and spatter between the layers and check for welding defects. If defects are found, they should be repaired in a timely manner and then the next layer of welding can be carried out. Post - welding Quality Inspection

 

Visual Inspection: After welding is completed, a visual inspection is first carried out. Inspect the surface quality of the weld, including the shape and size of the weld, and check for cracks, pores, slag inclusions, undercut and other defects. The weld surface should be flat and smooth, and the weld reinforcement should meet the design requirements. For welds that do not meet the requirements, grinding, repair or re - welding should be carried out.

 

Non - destructive Testing: To ensure the internal quality of the weld, non - destructive testing is required. Commonly - used non - destructive testing methods include ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing and magnetic particle testing. Ultrasonic testing can detect internal defects such as pores, slag inclusions and incomplete penetration in the weld; radiographic testing can more intuitively display the internal defect situation of the weld; magnetic particle testing is mainly used to detect cracks on the surface and near - surface.
