There are the following differences in performance among different steel grades of VL LR Shipbuilding Steel Plate:

I. Strength aspect
Lower steel grade (such as AH32):
The yield strength is generally above 315 MPa, and the tensile strength is between 440 - 570 MPa.
It can bear a certain load, but compared with medium and high steel grades, the strength is slightly lower. It is suitable for ship parts that do not have extremely high strength requirements, such as the secondary structures of some small ships or the non-critical parts of large ships.
Medium steel grade (such as DH32):
The yield strength is usually above 355 MPa, and the tensile strength is in the range of 490 - 630 MPa.
It has higher strength than lower steel grades and can better withstand various stresses and loads that ships are subjected to during navigation and cargo handling. It can be used for the main structures of medium-sized ships and more important parts of large ships, such as decks and bulkheads.
Higher steel grade (such as EH32, FH32, etc.):
The yield strength is even higher, generally above 390 MPa, and the tensile strength is also correspondingly increased and can reach a higher value.
It has very high strength and can cope with extreme load conditions and harsh marine environments. It is mainly used for the key structural parts of large and super-large ships or ships under special operating conditions, such as icebreakers and deep-sea drilling platform supply ships.

II. Toughness aspect
Lower steel grade (such as AH32):
It can still maintain a certain degree of toughness in low-temperature environments, but compared with medium and high steel grades, its toughness may be slightly weaker. Generally, it can meet the usage requirements of ships in relatively mild climatic conditions.
For example, in an environment with a temperature not lower than -20°C, it can better prevent dangerous situations such as brittle fracture.
Medium steel grade (such as DH32):
It has better toughness and can still maintain good performance at lower temperatures. Usually, it can adapt to a wider range of climatic and marine environmental conditions.
For example, in a low-temperature environment of -40°C, it can still maintain good toughness and effectively prevent brittle fracture of steel plates, providing guarantee for the operation of ships in cold sea areas.
Higher steel grade (such as EH32, FH32, etc.):
It has excellent toughness and can maintain a high fracture resistance even in extremely low-temperature environments.
It can maintain stable performance at -60°C or even lower temperatures and is suitable for ships operating in extremely cold environments such as the polar regions.
